Shanghai's AI Powered Plan for Revolutionary Elder Care Services

China's leading city, Shangh, has unveiled a comprehensive plan ming to transform elderly care services by embracing advanced technologies like robotics, and smart solutions, to tackle the challenges posed by its rapidly aging population. The goal is to position Shangh as an international leader in technological innovation and industrial advancement within elderly care by 2027.

The strategic blueprint encompasses multiple initiatives including setting up an elder care technology industry park, state-of-the-art incubators, enterprise innovation hubs, and research platforms. A key focus will be on nurturing top-tier enterprises, creating demonstration sites for elderly care tech products, and applying innovative technologies to address various needs effectively.

Specifically, the plan emphasizesapplications in elderly care services by developing algorithms that recognize voices, faces, emotions, motions, and environmental perceptions with high precision using s. It upgrade existing products like life assistance devices, health monitoring systems, rehabilitation equipment and robots through the integration of embodied intelligence and generative technologies.

In terms of product development, various types of robots such as rehabilitation robots, exoskeletons, nursing robots, companion robots are highlighted for their potential in improving elderly care. The plan underscores robotic companions that can assist seniors with dly needs while providing emotional support – a capability made possible through embodiedand enhanced emotional intelligence.

Multiple initiatives have already been implemented to integrate these advanced technologies into elder care practices:

• At the national level, China's Development Commission introduced guidelines on June 24 for boosting intelligent robot functions across various sectors including elderly care.

• The World Conference highlighted the capabilities of Guanghua No.1, a state-of-the-art elderly care robot developed by Fudan University’s Academy for Engineering and Technology. This robot is equipped with advancedfeatures to provide assistance and emotional support to the elderly.

Gan Zhongxue, Deputy Dean of the Academy for Engineering and Technology at Fudan University emphasized the importance of emotional intelligence in providing genuine care to seniors through robots like Guanghua No.1. He stressed that besides technical capabilities, robots need to understand emotions and express warmth to ensure effective care delivery.

To accelerate adoption and showcase potential benefits, the plan outlines strategies including speeding up smart aging solutions implementation, encouraging usage of advanced elderly care products in care facilities, establishing demonstration centers for elderly care technology products and providing support to indepently developed technologies. It also includes exploring insurance coverage options for cutting-edge solutions.

In fostering an environment conducive to industry growth, the strategy emphasizes backing enterprise innovation through high-caliber incubators, creating industrial clusters and fortifying standard syste ensure seamless integration of elderly care technology products.
