Comprehensive Trning for Eldercare and Migrant Domestic Workers

Basic Eldercare Course

The Basic Eldercare Course is designed to comprehensively trn caregivers, especially migrant domestic workers MDWs, in the essential skills required to care for seniors. This program focuses on Activities of Dly Living ADLs through hands-on demonstrations and visual ds that enhance understanding.

Topics Covered

Covering a range of topics including:

• Understanding Aging: Insights into biological changes associated with aging.

• Effective Communication: How to communicate effectively with the elderly population.

• Infection Control Practices: Ensuring safety and hygiene in care settings.

• Monitoring Vital Signs: Basic knowledge on how to check and interpret vital signs.

• Nutrition and Hydration: Guidance on providing proper dietary care for seniors.

• Activities Exercises: Simple routines that promote health and wellness among the elderly.

• Medication Management: Techniques for assisting seniors in taking oral medication safely.

• Emergency Preparedness: Knowing how to respond during various emergencies related to eldercare.

• Day-to-day Care Practices:

  • Toileting

  • Basic skin care techniques

  • Feeding methods

  • Personal hygiene, bathing, grooming, and dressing guidance

  • Transfer assistance for positioning and mobility needs

  • Strategies for fall prevention

Course Fees Eligibility

The course costs between $400-$500. Caregivers who qualify for the Caregiver Trning Grant can offset up to $200 of their tuition fees.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Senior: Must be aged 65 years and older.

• Citizenship: A Singaporean Citizen or Permanent Resident is required.

If your loved one is below age 65, eligibility will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
