REINVENTING THE ELDERCARE INDUSTRY WITH ON-DEMAND HOME CARE SERVICES

BY DBS, JULY 20, 2018

Awards-winning social enterprise Homage utilizes technology to meet the escalating demands of Singapore's aging population with personalized expert and flexible care.

Mary resigned from her full-time job after caring for her beloved mother-in-law who had suffered a stroke. Her mother-in-law's insistence on not being cared for by strangers led Mary to dedicate herself to caregiving, starting with showering and feeding her as well as changing diapers.

After her passing, Mary desired to d other seniors but lacked confidence in her abilities. She turned towards Homage, an online platform offering on-demand home care services through a mobile application that connects seniors requiring care with suitable caregivers. Founded by Gillian Tee, Lily Phang, and Tong Duong in 2016, Homage now boasts over 400 certified caregivers.

Recognizing its potential to address the gap in demand for home care services while disrupting traditional healthcare methods, Homage was awarded the DBS Foundation Social Enterprise Grant in the same year. This award subsequently led them to win the President's Challenge Social Enterprise Start-up of the Year title in 2017.

A service we can personally trust our parents with.

Homage offers an array of home care services starting from SGD $22 per hour for a one-off session. These encompass basic nursing and activities of dly living, as well as more specialized tasks such as catheter care and injections performed by nursing professionals. Speech therapy and home physiotherapy are also avlable through the platform.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong highlighted Homage's innovation in technology during the National Day Rally 2017 for its safety improvements for seniors living alone, alongside other social enterprise initiatives supported by DBS Foundation to ignite possibilities for inclusive Asia.

The company continues to address awareness gaps surrounding home-based care options. While healthcare is increasingly shifting towards community and home-based services, we still encounter Singaporeans who need assistance in understanding their avlable choices.

We have partnered with major local care organizations and Voluntary Welfare Organizations VWOs, such as The Salvation Army, to implement our caregivers' deployment for the benefit of lower-income seniors, sd Gillian Tee.

As part of our commitment to continue enhancing home care services with the support from DBS Foundation's Social Enterprise Grant Programme, we are refining our mobile application to allow multiple family members managing the same care recipients. This helps families ensure that their loved ones are in trustworthy hands.
